1. It is believed that Lord Shiva sent Basava, his bull to travel the world and inform people to bathe daily and eat once a month. However, Basava did the exact opposite of it and invited the wrath of Lord Shiva, who then sent him to exile. Basava then was made to help and assist the people while ploughing. 
2. Lord Krishna once told the people of Gokul to stop offering prayers to Lord Indra, who Lord Krishna believed was arrogant and filled with pride. The decision of Lord Krishna invited the wrath of Lord Indra, and he then caused flooding and thunderstorm in Gokul. In order to protect the people, Lord Krishna lifted the Govardhan parvat and provided shelter to the people of Gokul. After this incident, Lord Indra asked for forgiveness from Lord Krishna as he realised his mistake.

1. On the day of Bhogi Pongal, people celebrate it by lighting bonfires and burning away the discarded items of the house.

3. On the day of Mattu Pongal, the members of the community worship cattle as God. 
4. On the day of Kanum Pongal, people come together and end the festivities together
