Happy Guru Nanak Jayanti 2021: Gurpurab Wishes, Messages, Quotes, Images, Facebook, and Whatsapp Status

It is believed that Guru Nanak Ji showered upon the world, not just knowledge, but enlightenment. The enlightenment that he brought to the world is recorded in one of the supreme scripture of Sikhs, called Guru Granth Sahib- which is their chief deity and is revered in Gurudwaras and homes alike. The recurrent themes of light, knowledge, and enlightenment are manifested in the act of lighting diyas and candles on this day, along with putting up lights to decorate workplaces and homes.

The birth anniversary of the first of the ten gurus in Sikhism, Gurpurab is one of the most significant festivals for the Sikhs and is not celebrated on a fixed date. This year, the auspicious occasion of the 552nd birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji will fall on 19 November 2021 and will be celebrated globally. According to the lunar calendar, the night of Diwali is the fifteenth day, Amavasya of the month of Kartik, while fifteen days after it is the night of Gurpurab- the night of the full moon, also known as Kartik Purnima. Because the full moon is the brightest night of the month, this day is considered special and signifies illumination and enlightenment – motifs that are integral to the day.

The Sikhs have ten gurus, each of whom contributed towards shaping the culture and heritage of Sikhism. Guru Nanak Dev Ji is considered to be the founder of Sikhism whose teachings are recorded in the Guru Granth Sahib. He was born in 1469 at Nankana Sahib. His birth is considered to be a divine event and is not like any other ordinary human birth. Because of his humanitarian perspective towards the world, he is considered to be one of the higher human beings. He strictly believed in the ideals of compassion, co-existence, love, justice, and selfless service. He was strictly against sacrifices and preached that the creator of the universe is one. The day is celebrated to honor and commemorate him, his deeds, his service, and his contribution to humanity and the world. To mark this day, a two-day long recitation of the Guru Granth Sahib is held and is called ‘akhand paath’ meaning undivided. The day before Guru Nanak Jayanti is marked by a long, elaborate procession in which the Guru Granth Sahib is carried and people sing praises of the Guru, with young men performing martial arts and five young men, known as the ‘panj piyare’, carrying the triangular flag of the Sikhs called as the ‘Nishan Sahib’. The day is marked with candles, diyas, and lights outside homes and offices, celebrations, and offering prayers.

Here we have some wishes, greetings, and messages to mark the day for you and your loved ones. Quotes marking the teachings of Guru Nanak Dev Ji are also given for a better understanding of his vision for humankind.
